「自我決策」概念於2002年開始引入本港的智障人士服務，早期著重向為智障人士提供服務的同工、以及智障人士家長的推廣。以下由香港中文大學社會工作學系黃敬歲教授撰寫的分享文章，以顯淺易明的文字，有助同工、以及智障人士的家長理解的智障人士擁有「自我決策」的權利及其重要性。
